What to Check Before Installing a UV Inkjet Printer on a Production Line

Before installing a UV inkjet printer, confirm the substrate, print size, line speed, installation space, communication method and sample testing to reduce repeated adjustments.

The conditions on a production line affect printer selection, installation and sample testing. Before discussing a UV inkjet project, organize the line and product information in a simple checklist.

Start with the substrate. Carton, plastic, metal, glass and flexible packaging surfaces can have different coatings, roughness and surface treatments. Ink adhesion may vary, so samples should use the actual production material whenever possible instead of ordinary paper.

Next confirm the content and speed. Provide the real size of text, graphics, QR codes or variable data, together with output per minute, conveying direction and the allowed print distance. Print height, line count and line speed should be evaluated as one set of conditions.

Then check installation and interfaces. Confirm the space between the printhead and product, mounting position, operator access, power requirements and whether USB, RS232 or Ethernet communication is needed. Site photos and a simple dimension sketch often reveal issues earlier than a verbal description.

Finally define the sample test and acceptance record. Keep the sample, ink color, print distance, speed and test date, and record legibility, drying, adhesion and QR-code readability. Once these details are complete, the model and configuration can be confirmed against the actual conditions.
